The Atlas AI and Industrial Applications teams at Cognite are dedicated to building cutting-edge user experiences that empower industrial data users through intelligent interaction and insights. A critical component of our product is a robust and intuitive user interface that allows users to seamlessly interact with AI capabilities and the underlying Cognite Data Fusion platform.
This internship project focuses on enhancing the user experience and reliability of our product through direct UI development and bug resolution. The successful intern will become an integral part of our agile development team, contributing directly to the shipped product that our customers use daily. This is an excellent opportunity for exceptional students to apply their React and TypeScript skills in a high-impact, real-world industrial AI setting.
This internship will span 6 - 8 weeks, commencing in the first week of July. Interns will work collaboratively in pairs of two, fostering a dynamic and supportive learning environment.
Project Scope & Activities
- UI/UX Enhancements:
- Implementing new features or improving existing UI components based on design specifications and user feedback.
- Optimizing visual consistency, responsiveness, and overall user flow.
- Collaborating with product designers and backend engineers to ensure a cohesive user experience.
- Bug Fixing & Performance Optimization:
- Identifying, diagnosing, and resolving UI-related bugs reported by internal QA or early-access users.
- Writing unit and integration tests to ensure code quality and prevent regressions.
- Codebase Contribution:
- Writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented TypeScript and React code.
- Participating in code reviews, providing constructive feedback, and learning from senior engineers.
- Contributing to the overall architecture and design discussions of the frontend application.
Expected Outcomes
- Contributed directly to the Atlas AI and Industrial Application products by delivering several new UI features or significant UI enhancements.
- Successfully resolved a set of identified bugs, improving the stability and reliability of the application.
- Gained hands-on experience with a modern industrial AI product stack and collaborative software development practices.
- Developed a deeper understanding of TypeScript and React best practices in an enterprise environment.
- Produced well-tested and production-ready code.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- TypeScript: Solid understanding of TypeScript for building scalable and type-safe applications.
- React: Demonstrated proficiency in React.js, including hooks, context API, and component lifecycle.
- Web Development Fundamentals: Strong grasp of HTML5, CSS3, and modern JavaScript (ES6+).
- Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team environment, communicate clearly, and take initiative.
- Version Control: Familiarity with Git and GitHub/GitLab workflows.
Bonus Skills (Nice to Have):
- Experience with UI component libraries (e.g., Material-UI, Ant Design, or internal component libraries).
- Familiarity with state management libraries (e.g., Redux, Zustand).
- Experience with testing frameworks (e.g., Vite, , React Testing Library).
- Understanding of UI/UX principles.
