2026 Summer Intern : Flow Assurance in CO2 Transport Research and Technology

TotalEnergies, one of the largest energy producers in the world, has a transverse CCUS R&T program distributed across three different countries. Within this strategic program, “CO2 transport” has a high priority in the development of a large-scale CCS full chain industry.

Engaged in CCS for more than 3 decades, Norway is strongly promoting the development and deployment of the CCUS technology. Over the past 20 years, more than 2 000 M€ of public funding have been invested in this field. In this dynamic context, TotalEnergies is heavily engaged in developing CCUS activities in Norway from both R&D and industrial project perspectives.
Several projects that are managed by the CO2 Transport Team have a strong flow assurance content, which requires using and validating various models and softwares that are used for design and operations of CO2 pipelines and wells. Within this context, there is continuous simulation work for benchmarking of commercial flow assurance tools (e.g. LedaFlow, OLGA) against available experimental data. The summer intern will support the CO2 Transport team, located in Stavanger Research Center, by running simulations and doing comparisons between modelling and experimental data.
The main objective of the summer intern position is to assist the CO2 Transport Research&Technology (RT) team located in Stavanger Research Center in assessing the commercial flow assurance tools against a set of experimental data available from various joint industry projects.
Activities:
  • Review of one or several sets of experimental data available
  • Testing of softwares (Flow assurance) against the experimental data
  • Critical evaluation, extraction, and processing of the data
  • Identification of weaknesses of the CO2 modelling capabilities of the softwares. This will be used as input for recommendation to the software developers for further development/improvement of their tools.
  • Presentation of the results in different formats (powerpoint, excel format, technical report, etc.)
  • Communication of the testing results concisely and clearly in various meetings

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or a master’s student in Engineering preferably in Chemical Engineering
Experience with simulation tools will be a big plus.
Open-mindedness, autonomy, good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
Fluent in English.
